Phenomena and Characteristics of Indonesian People
In my opinion, Indonesian people have characteristics or traits that tend to be eastern because of the influence of Islamic religious rules and they also have a polite and open attitude towards others compared to other foreign countries. But Indonesian people tend to be impulsive. I can strengthen this data with evidence in society that much of the news circulating on social media is never filtered back into what is good and what is not.
Based on the analysis that I found regarding issues / phenomena related to the impulsive nature of Indonesian people, for example, when the term 'beauty standard' emerged, where many Indonesian people did not accept their condition which did not comply with the standards circulating in society. Therefore, many Indonesian people are 'FOMO' and compete to follow trends. Becoming what other people want based on Azhari (Lecture PPT 3), I can conclude that being-for-others is a dishonest act because of shame, fear, arrogance and arrogance.
Beauty standard itself is something formed by a group with the aim of labeling someone to determine whether they are attractive or not. This Beauty Standard emerged from a group in the beauty sector, such as: makeup products, skincare products, bodycare products, haircare products and many more. They claim that someone can be told to be attractive if they have white skin, a slim body, long straight hair, clean skin, or any message conveyed in the products they market is a standard. They lead these opinions to fulfill personal/group interests, usually they convey it through advertising, where they will display their perspective in an illustration of someone who is considered to fit their ideal criteria. This is a process of inserting a subliminal message, according to Utami (2017: Subliminal Perception in Advertising (Subliminal Advertising)), said "Subliminal advertising is a persuasion strategy where stimuli originating from advertisements, both visually, audio, and visual audio, are absorbed and processed unconsciously penetrating the minds of consumers without obstacles from the SuperEgo so that it will influence consumer behavior in deciding whether to buy/use the product/service or not". This is what happens if Indonesian people tend to have impulsive characteristics and can result in changing the perspective of Indonesian society regarding the Beauty Standard itself which results in reduced variation and uniqueness between individuals because they are based on a discourse. According to Foucault (Azhari: Ppt Lecture 5), he said "The knowledge agreed upon by a group of people is what collectively decides whether an individual is part of 'normal' or not".
Therefore, in order for us to survive in Indonesian society, we can learn so that we are no longer FOMO about something, we can be ourselves by highlighting our respective uniqueness, this can create many variations of humans and can respect each other more. Nietzsche (Nanuru, 2011: Übermensch), said "Humans must be honest with themselves, and always be innovative".
